Elizabeth has scheduled a very special Gastronomic and Cultural experience over an 8 day tour to the south of Italy with a pre – tour option available in Rome

This eight day, small group tour is based in the beautiful, medieval village of Pisciotta on the Cilento Coast, in the south of Italy. Cilento is much loved by many Italians – a place that it is famed for its food, its climate, its natural beauty and history. It is an extraordinary part of Italy, with exquisitely preserved gastronomic and cultural traditions, waiting to be discovered.

The tour places a big emphasis on food and wine. We immerse ourselves in the rhythms of village life and take full advantage of our surroundings. We enjoy multi course restaurant meals each day in a series of unforgettable locations. We learn about the finer points of the Mediterranean diet as we pick our way through some of the most exceptional produce in Italy, visiting local food producers, participating in cooking classes with local chefs and cooks and visiting wineries. Our exploration of the natural environment takes full advantage of one of Italy’s largest marine and forested national parks that we are situated in. Our travels are full of surprises and our highlights also include a stay in Paestum with a visit to the fabulous UNESCO recognised Greek Temples and a visit to Pompeii before we finish our time together on the Amalfi Coast.

Pre and Post Tour opportunities are available on request if you would like to extend your travels. For those planning independent travel, assistance is offered in customised itineraries and forward bookings.

Day 0
Meet in Rome in the evening over an aperitivo. Optional dinner in Rome

Day 1. Sunday
Depart Rome by 8am from our recommended hotel.

We travel in air conditioned bus to Pisciotta with some stops on the way.

Settle into our accommodation in Pisciotta. Enjoy a welcome drink and orientation of the village.
We will watch the sunset over the sea as we enjoy cocktails from just one of the panoramic terraces in the village.
Dinner in a local Osteria with local wine and liqueurs.

Day 2. Monday

Exploration of Pisciotta Marina and the Port.

Visit to the Anchovy Laboratory at the Marina.
Here we learn about the manaica caught anchovies, the salting process of these and observation of the preparation of other local specialties.

Cooking class and lunch at Per Bacco with local wine.

Historical walk of the village in the evening

Wine tasting.
Dinner – with local wine and liqueurs

Day 3. Tuesday
Transfer by bus to the nearby port of Palinuro
Visit to the Grottoes and surrounding beaches of Palinuro.
Lunch and swimming in the deep blue waters of the Mediterranean.
Wine tasting in the afternoon followed by a well earnt siesta break.
In the early evening – Transfer by bus to the nearby village of Rodio.
Exploration of the village on foot and optional 90 minute twilight walk from Rodio to our restaurant reservation for this evening.  Vehicle transfer is available.
Dinner with local wine and liqueurs

Day 4 Wednesday
Market day today.
We will shop with Sonia from La Locanda from the local farmers market. Once we have everything organised for lunch, we have free time at the market.
Return to the locanda for a cooking class, lunch on the terrace and a leisurely swim in the pool.

This evening we go to Pisciotta Marina for our cocktails while we wait for the fishing boats to come in and to see the arrival of todays haul with the locals.  A quick lesson in how to clean the local anchovies.
Be sure to wash your hands – Dinner tonight is a very special fine dining event with local wine and liqueurs

Day 5 Thursday
This morning we farewell Pisciotta and depart for Paestum.
We explore some important wineries around Paestum.  We have lunch with a wine maker on our way, enjoying the food and wine this time of Paestum area.
We check into our country house style accommodation.  After relaxing by the pool we can enjoy dinner and local wine and liqueurs with the other guests.

Day 6 Friday
Bright and early we visit a buffalo farm and observe the makings of buffalo mozzarella.
We have a cooking class and sit down to a leisurely lunch of the dishes we have prepared.

After a swim and siesta we explore the UNESCO rated archeological site of Paestum and visit the museum with a local English speaking guide.
Dinner with local wine will be in front of the temples, beautifully lit for our enjoyment.

Day 7 Saturday
This morning we will try and beat the heat and join a local English speaking guide in Pompeii.
Afterwards we drive to (Ravello) on the Amalfi Coast via Vietri Sul Mare – a perfect stop for ceramics shopping.
We will visit a limoncello producer before our arrival in Ravello.
Concert followed by optional late dinner.

What to Expect – A Re-Charge of your Senses

Taste – The gastronomic experience of Cilento is perhaps one of the most authentic and treasured you could expect in Italy.  Cilento is home to the Mediterranean Diet.  You will have defined for you a new understanding exactly what this is as we take cooking classes with local chefs and cooks, pick our way through the best local restaurants in the most exquisite locations, and visit the traditional food producers and some of the most innovative wineries in Italy.   Cilento is home to menaica caught anchovies, the fruity tasting  Cilento olives, Buffalo Mozarella and fiano and aglianico grape varieties, not to mention the extraordinary selection of local liquers – Limoncello is just one of them!


The unforgettable beauty of the environment and its landscapes will stay with you forever. 

A combination of the mild Mediterranean climate, monotonous blue skies for much of the year, the occasional dramatic thunderstorms out to sea, moonshine over the water, mountains, sea, forests and tiny medieval villages – Cilento is surrounded by one of Italy’s largest marine and forested national parks.  Cool, shaded chestnut forests and running streams in the surrounding hills, cascade into  olive groves, lemons, sprawling fig trees, herbs and wild flowers along the winding roads to the sea and its crystal clear waters.  Exploring the surrounding beaches, coves and grottoes, and swimming in the warm deep blue waters of the Mediterranean is one of the most unforgettable experiences of all.  The vision of order as you enter a restaurant and realise for sure, that absolutely everything done here is exceptional.  The colour of the fruits and vegetables, the muted greys, greens, and reds of the fish on display in the fish shop and the ceramics for sale in Vietri Sul Mare, the UNESCO rated archeological site of  Pompei and the Greek temples of Paestum, the Gardens of Ninfi outside Rome, the heart stopping views the first time you see the Amalfi Coast.  You will not know where to look next.


First you notice the silence and then the sounds slowly emerge one at a time.  It is unusual to hear a television, raised voices, traffic noises or even a child crying.  There are no cars in the village of Pisciotta.  As much as possible we stay off busy motorways getting from place to place and prefer quiet country roads, far, far away from Italian traffic madness.  Church bells call everyone to mass at regular intervals throughout the week.  Even if you are not religious, allow yourself to be comforted by the the gentle prayers, and the voice of the choir.  The sounds of the bustling market day, coffee or spritz in the piazza, the band leading a procession for a religious festival, an outdoor concert in the beautiful Piazza Pagano, on a balmy summer evening, your unbelieving exclamations as you sit back and take in the view through the olive groves or the cascading bougainvillea,  the hum of the cicadas and your own contented sigh as you close your eyes and finally surrender to a sleep like no other you have ever had!


The warmth of the sun, the saltiness of the sea, the coolness of the breeze as you walk through a chestnuts forest, the near chill of the air in one of the tunnels in the oldest parts of the village, the freshness of the water coming from a mountain stream, the prickle of your skin as you pinch yourself to see if you are perhaps dreaming!

Smell – the smells of olive wood burning in the winter time, and meats and fish being cooked over olive wood fires on a summer evening.  The sweet perfume of  freshly made buffalo mozzarella, the aroma of tomatoes and pungency of basil, your coffee in the morning, the ridiculousness of the alpine strawberries, and the scent of wild mint and oregano as you rub it through your fingers on your way down to the beach.

Pricing, Deposits, Balance Payments and Refunds:

Price of $3950 AUD (Australian Dollars) are per person, double / twin share occupancy. (This

price does not include international banking transaction fees). $500AUD (Australian Dollar) supplement applies to July / August Tour.

Single Travellers
We love to accommodate singles on our tours. You are provided with single-use double rooms. The additional single supplement cost is $500AUD (Australian Dollars). Please contact us for availability prior to booking.

Prices are guaranteed – Refer to What is Included and What is Not Included – below.
Your additional expenses will be for non-included meals, moderate tipping where appropriate, and personal sightseeing or shopping.

The deposit is $1000 AUD per person, payable to reserve your place.
Balance payments are due within 70 days prior to tour start, payable to confirm your place. Deposits and balance payments are preferred by Electronic Funds Transfer to my Australian bank account. VISA and Mastercard payments becoming available.

After your deposit has been accredited we will send you an invoice with the due date and the balance amount due. Should you fail to make final payment by the date specified on your invoice, we reserve the right to cancel your booking without refund.
Cancellations and refunds:
In the unlikely event that we would cancel your tour, you would be entitled to a 100% refund within 2 weeks after the tour’s cancellation.

Tours require a minimum of 4 people to proceed with the attached tour itinerary. Smaller numbers can be accommodated but the itinerary or transportation may undergo some modification to accommodate this.

Should you cancel your tour reservation:
are 50% refundable up until 180 days prior to tour start date.

are 100 % non-refundable less than 180 days prior to tour start date.

Balance payments are 98% refundable 70 days or more prior to tour start date.

 48% refundable 70 to 31 days prior to tour start date.

30 days or less prior to tour start date: no refund.
Physician documented emergency medical reasons or police documented cases of accident, flood, fire or crime are required for refunds.

We do not provide refunds for: non-medical personal problems; air carrier delays or cancellations; inability to obtain passports; business problems or emergencies; etc.

Travel Protection

All participants of the tour are required to purchase a travel protection plan to help protect you and your trip investment!
Your cover needs to provide at a minimum – Trip Cancellation/Trip Interruption, Medical, Emergency Medical and Emergency Evacuation/Repatriation, Trip Delay, Baggage Delay etc.

It is not possible for Elizabeth Peddey to provide travel protection coverage of any sort. Evidence of your travel insurance must be supplied at the time of payment of your deposit.

Limit of Liability

No responsibility is accepted for any loss, expense, accident, injury, or damage to any person or property due to the actions or omissions of any person, or any cause, including but not limited to acts of God, acts of terrorism, war, strikes, defects in machinery, breakdown of equipment, weather, quarantine, negligence, loss of baggage, or other causes beyond our control, such losses being the responsibility of the guest.

Membership on Tour

Elizabeth Peddey School of Cookery and Gastronomy reserves the right to accept, reject, or not retain any person as a tour participant whose condition or general deportment impedes the operation of the tour or, in the opinion of the tour manager, affects the rights and enjoyment of other guests. A guest not retained on tour shall have no cause for complaint or refund, and shall bear any and all extra expenses that ensue.

Tour Changes

All information on this website and in the provided itinerary is, to the best of our knowledge,

correct. However, we reserve the right to make changes in accommodations, visits, and itineraries at any time should it become necessary or desirable. Delays or itinerary changes

caused by strikes, bad weather, traffic, or other unforeseen circumstances are beyond our control and we are not obliged to pay guests compensation.
